Good news story – Digital advice to boost businesses

Specialist advice from a city council team is helping growing businesses in Stoke-on-Trent with digital marketing and forward planning.

The Business Growth Team can analyse a company’s needs and put forward strategies to improve their impact via the internet and social media, and to make the most of specific business intelligence.

The service is available to businesses who have been trading for more than three years, with between 10 and 100 employees and a turnover of more than £500,000.

To qualify, companies must also market their services outside the area and have been profitable for at least three of the last four years.

Summit Hospitality, which provides quality meeting and conferencing facilities, was given support to improve the online experience of visitors to its website to better engage with new and existing customers.

Company founder Carol Shanahan said “The advice and guidance received from the city council’s Business Growth team has proved extremely valuable to us as a business, and we have taken on board and actioned all outline recommendations”.

“We are confident that the changes made to our website and online offering will help us further build, develop and enhance our relationships with both existing and prospective customers across the region and help us to grow as a business”

Meanwhile, local hardware manufacturer Stapling and Nailing Limited asked for help with Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) to make sure their website had maximum impact with customers.

The Fenton-based company which specialises in providing nailing and stapling equipment nationally, was looking to increase sale of products online and grow its business.

Director Sian Phillips said “Over the last six months, we have been working on the website implementing the actions recommended by the Business Growth team and have been able to capture the impact of changes made by regular monitoring of the website using Google Analytics”.

The results of this monitoring show some impressive increases as a result of SEO changes made.  In October and November their website received an extra 288 users over a four week period when compared to with three months prior, equating to an increase of 91 per cent.

Over the last five months, traffic coming from search engines to the website has consistently grown and is still increasing.
